1. He ceased to write at the age of sixty.

2. When he heard the knock, he ceased writing.

当他听到敲门声, 就停下来不写了。

句1 用to do，表示“停止原来已有些习惯性动作，且永远停止不再进行”。他原是一位作家。

句2 用doing，表示“停止一个暂时性的动作，下面大概继续进行”。他可能临时在写一份材料或报告，可能不是作家。

假如描述一个人“过世，心脏停止了跳动”，网友想想，应该用 beating 还是 to beat ？
